Audiences: lists, segments & tags

Three ways to target — static lists, live segments, and tags.

Tags

Tags are labels on contacts ("VIP", "2025 Gala Attendee"). Tag people manually or via CSV import. Campaigns → Tags shows every tag with its contact count, and lets you rename or delete tags globally.

Lists

Lists are hand-curated, static rosters — add or remove specific people, and the list stays exactly as you left it. Manage them under Campaigns → Lists; the detail page has a search-and-add picker.

Segments

Segments are saved filters that re-evaluate at send time — for example, anyone tagged VIP or Wine Club who has opted in. Build them from tag rules (match any/all) plus an opt-in-only toggle under Campaigns → Segments. The page shows live match counts, so a segment used monthly always reflects today's contacts.

Which to use?

Use a list when membership is deliberate (a gala invite list). Use a segment when membership is a rule (all VIPs). Use a tag as the raw label both are built from.
